Leading with Heart: Seezona’s Founder on Motherhood, Business & What Really Matters

As both the founder of Seezona and a devoted mother, Anna Helander shares what it truly means to build a business while raising a family. In this thoughtful interview, she opens up about how motherhood has reshaped her priorities, deepened her empathy as a leader, and highlighted the importance of support, both from others and from within. With honesty and heart, Anna reflects on the guilt, the growth, and the unexpected joy that come with balancing two of life’s most demanding (and rewarding) roles.

How has becoming a mother influenced your perspective as a business owner and brand creator?

It has given me a new perspective on what truly matters in life. My company has long been my focus and top priority — and it still is incredibly important — but since becoming a mother, my daughter's happiness and health are what matter most. If she is well, everything else feels manageable.

What has been the biggest challenge in balancing motherhood and running a company, and how do you navigate it?

Finding time for myself is a constant challenge. I feel guilty when I work too much, but I also feel guilty when I spend too much time away from work to be with my daughter, so time spent away from both can feel especially loaded with guilt. I'm extremely lucky to have a very supportive husband who often reminds me how important it is to prioritise my physical and mental health. That allows me to be the best version of myself — as a mom, a wife, a daughter, a boss, and a friend. He is the best dad I could ever imagine for our daughter and gives me all the time I need to work, train, meet friends, and recharge. I wouldn’t be able to do any of it without him, and I’m immensely grateful.

Has being a parent changed the way you approach creativity or leadership in your business?

I’ve become more patient and understanding. Everyone has their own struggles, which can overlap with work. Being happy and healthy is what matters most, and I try to support others when I can. Sometimes, simply being seen and heard is enough, so I aim to create an environment where people feel comfortable sharing their challenges if they choose to. I believe this leads to stronger bonds and, ultimately, better results for the company in the long run.

What does a typical day look like for you when you're juggling both work and family life?

On weekdays, my husband takes care of our daughter when she wakes up so I can get ready. I then walk the dog and join my little family for breakfast. After that, I take over with my daughter and get her ready for the day. My husband then takes her to morning activities while I start my workday. They return around 5 p.m., so I pause work to cook an early dinner for all of us. We eat together, then move into our evening routine and bedtime. After that, I usually get back to work for a couple of hours but aim to be in bed by 10 p.m. to get enough rest.

Is there a piece of advice you would give to other mothers who dream of starting their own brand?

A couple, actually!

It takes a lot of work to run your own business, so make sure you have a strong support network to help you find a good work/life balance.

It also requires some sacrifices when it comes to motherhood, which can lead to heartache, so ask yourself if you’re okay with that.

Be patient with yourself and don’t give up; you won’t figure it all out on the first try, but if you keep trying, you’ll eventually find a strategy that works and will make it all worth it.

What do you think is the best thing about being a mom?

The unparalleled feeling of love and joy that a child brings into your life. It’s indescribable how deeply you can love someone and how much happiness they can give you with just a smile or a glance. My daughter’s laugh is my favourite sound in the world, and her hugs bring me such peace. Just looking at her can sometimes bring me to tears. Becoming a mom is the best thing that’s ever happened to me — it makes me feel incredibly fulfilled.
